oura ring review

i’ve been wearing my oura ring for about 7 months now, so i figured it’s time to share a full review, especially because i get asked about it all the time!

if you haven’t heard of it - the oura ring is a smart ring that measures your sleep, fitness, & recovery. you wear it on your pointer finger (either one) 24/7, except when it’s charging (which doesn’t take long at ALL - i charge mine for about an hour every 2-3 days!). & it connects to a mobile app, so instead of having a screen attached to your hand like the apple watch, all the info just gets sent automatically to the app.

to spoil the review: i’m obsessed with it.

here’s a few answers to some commonly asked questions!

why i chose it

i just personally love lifestyle trackers for fitness, sleep, etc. i love being able to track my workouts & steps; it keeps me way more motivated & on track with whatever goal i have (like working out every day, or certain days each week!) i just think it’s cool to get a visual of what my body is doing!!!

i wore an apple watch for yearsss, but now my ring has replaced it. i really liked the fitness tracking of the watch but overall, i didn’t enjoy having a tiny screen attached to me at all times (for the aesthetic & also for the amount of EMFs it puts off). a few friends swapped their watches for Oura rings & ultimately they sold me on it. & turns out, tracking my sleep has been a game-changer with two kids! it’s so helpful & validating to know “oh, this is why i’m so tired today” or seeing that lots of nights even with many wake-ups, i’m still getting good quality sleep!

& as i mentioned, apple watches give off EMFs all day long where as the Oura ring is a safer option because it only transmits data when you open your app on your phone. bluetooth is only active for less than 1% of the day! it omits 0 EMFs when it’s in airplane mode & you can keep it on airplane mode until you want to charge + sync it with the app to see your stats!

tracking

i’m obsessed with all the tracking that’s available through the app! specifically, i love that the oura ring automatically starts tracking when i’m working out - i used to get so bummed when i’d realize midway through a workout that i forgot to start my watch!

here’s some examples from my app of metrics that you can track! it’s seriously amazing how many different metrics there are - even if you’re only interested in looking at one or two of them!

& my favorite - the sleep metrics! this has helped me find the optimal time to go to sleep & wake up, as well as what sleeping conditions i do best in! it’s like my very own at-home sleep experiment haha i’ve quickly realized that 8 hours a night is my ideal.

as you can see in the pictures, it tracks what time you got in bed, went to sleep, sleep cycles, movement, etc.

based on all those things, it gives you a sleep score for the night. 90’s is ideal but i feel my best when i’m at least at 85! the apple watch does NOT have this feature & honestly the ring has made me prioritize healthy sleep habits much more!

ordering

when you order, you’ll select your style & finish, & then either choose the size of your ring or opt for the free sizing kit. i would definitely choose the sizing kit - their sizing is pretty different than normal ring sizes! for example, i’m usually around a 5 in rings, & my oura ring is an 8 lol so better safe than sorry! you’ll get it in the mail, & then choose your size online & they’ll ship the actual ring to you.

i have the heritage in gold! i like the look of the horizon a bit better, but since it’s already an investment i was fine to get the cheaper one :) you can also choose to pay with affirm, which breaks it into a smaller monthly payment instead of all up front!

update: when i first published this post, i wasn’t using the Natural Cycles app in conjunction with the Oura ring, but now i am after hearing so many people rave about it! its $14.99 a month & it automatically syncs/tracks your temperature reading from your ring to the NC app to predict when you’re ovulating, etc. i’m hoping it helps me catch my first postpartum ovulation since i don’t have my cycle back yet!

a few final deets

one downside to the oura ring is that it requires a monthly subscription to use the app, but it’s only $5.99 a month, which in my mind is totally worth it for all the features it gives you!

okay i think that’s it! if you’re into lifestyle trackers, this one is my vote! i think it’s super practical, comprehensive & simple at the same time. let me know in the comments if you have other questions, or your fave feature if you have one!

i make a small kickback if you purchase yours through my link which i so appreciate if this review was helpful to you 😘
