our couch FAQ

this couch has been one of my hands-down favorite purchases for our new home! i get so many questions about it, so i figured it’s time to put allll the answers in one place for you :)

PSA: this is 0% sponsored nor do i make any type of affiliate comission off our couch. i just adore it lol it’s truly the perfect EVERYTHING couch. lounge, work, nap…whatever it is, you won’t want to get up once you sit down haha.

i hope this is helpful, regardless of if you’re looking to buy this couch, care for your own, or find a new comfy spot that fits your space!

what’s the name of the couch?

the couch is called the hobson sectional, from the brand coaster! it’s not sold directly through the coaster site, so it might require a bit of searching to find a retailer near you that has it in stock - but truuuuust me, it’s worth the search/wait. my friend Addi (who 100% influenced me to buy this couch) bought hers at a furniture store in person, where as I ordered it online from this furniture store in California. i had a great experience with the company i went with! i picked them because of the price + fast shipping. when searching for which store to buy it from, i called the stores & asked what the estimated shipping time was so i definitely recommend that!

after taxes & shipping, i paid $3,406. for a couch this size + quality…that is a GOOOOD deal. not to mention it’s a total dupe of the restoration hardware cloud couch which for the same size/setup as the hobson sectional would be easilyyy $10,000+.

what material are the cushions + inserts? do they slide around?

it only comes in the (prettiest!) off-white color, with black legs (which we took off, so it just sits right on the ground!). & it includes a handful of square & rectangular accent pillows (you can see one on the right side of the couch in the above pic!), which are the same comfy cozy material as the cushions. the cushion material is a linen-like material but even softer than linen IMO. the fabric (on the ottoman specifically) pills a little but it’s nothing a fabric shaver can’t fix! the fabric is pre-treated so it repels water + stains super well (more on that below!).

the back cushions are filled with regular cotton stuffing & the seat cushions are a combo of a foam insert + down feathers surrounding the foam! my favorite thing is how DEEP the cushions are. it honestly feels like a combo of a couch + bed haha.

another huge pro is that the seat cushions have little hooks on them that clip into place on the base of the couch, keeping them from sliding around! the back cushions definitely need to be fluffed since its cotton fill! i fluff/straighten them a couple times a day (which only takes a minute).

here’s a closer view of the fabric texture & color:

are the modular pieces sold separately or all together?

retailers have slightly different options here, but ours came as the full 6 piece set, with the ottoman included! we have another corner section (with a right arm), but i moved it to the “playroom” & it’s PERFECT there. i love the look of armless couches! additionally - the right arm piece boxed our living room in a little bit.

i actually love that all the pieces are separate & easily connect with hidden hooks, so it’s super easy to rearrange based on what fits your space. also, i’ve tried out the ottoman in a few different spots, & love changing it up/unhooking it when we have company & need more seating, or making a U-shape and putting a table in the middle for a game night!

in the pic below, we have the ottoman against the left arm piece! i love how this configuration creates a little play space in between for our 1 year old! i would say the biggest con of the couch is that the ottoman cushion isn’t washable. when the cushion covers are freshly washed, there’s a slight color difference between the ottoman & the other cushions & that annoys me but it’s not a huge deal because i just lay a blanket or sheepskin on it! i am kicking myself for not keeping a blanket on it more frequently! i will probably get the ottoman professionally cleaned 1-2 times a year & who knows - i may just end up buying a new ottoman every couple years depending on wear & tear.

How do you clean it? how has it held up?

basically my only hesitation in buying this was that it’s a beautiful white, & we have two big dogs & a baby runnin’ around these days! it’s honestly held up soooo well. like i said earlier, my pal Addi has had the couch for years so naturally i asked her 1 million questions about it before we purchased. she raved about how well the couch cleans up & she wasn’t kiddin. when needed, we spot clean the cushions (with my tried & true green machine). couch rules: no dogs & no kids with food lol i’ve banned the dogs from it (we used to let them sleep on our old couch, so i snagged this comfy dog bed for them instead!), which has definitely helped keep dog hair away! & fostie (& our friends kiddos) know that at our house, we don’t eat food on/near the couch. we use our dyson vaccum with the brush attachment to clean off any dog hair from the cushions/back. this works perfectly!

AND THE BEST PART…allll the cushion cover are machine washable! in fact i washed them yesterday & it seriously looks like a brand new couch. how i wash them: just unzip them, remove them, zip them back up & wash on regular or delicates - cool water & low spin speed, & then air dry in your house or in the sun (AKA secret weapon for getting stains out!)

i also love my things to be lived-in! i know life is gonna leave marks & scuffs & stains, & while i do take good care of my things, i try to keep my expectations low & relax knowing we’re gonna love our furniture WELL, & it’ll probably show :)

other things to know:

delivery // not sure how each company works but our couch arrived boxed up in individual pieces so it took about 2 hours to unbox everything & put it together. expect a looot of packaging haha
