what is toner anyways?

until a year ago, i thought toner was a just a pointless step in skincare routines! then i got on one of my research kicks & learned my face was missing out on some serious hydration + nourishment. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
lemme make it easy & break it down for ya:
toner is simply a liquid that gives your skin a quick hit of hydration 💦 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
〰 helps remove dead skin cells AKA rejuvenated glow ✨
〰 balances the PH of your skin 〰 can shrink your pores!
〰 removes any excess makeup/dirt your cleanser missed 👌🏼
〰 acts as a primer for your moisturizer/serums
it gets ridda the bad stuff 👎🏼 balances the necessary stuff 🙌🏼 & preps your face for the good stuff 👍🏼
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

PROTIP: put your toner on no longer than a minute after you cleanse to maximize its effect! some people like to just spritz it onto their face but i like to spray it onto a cotton pad & wipe outwards!
i personally rotate through different toners! DIY green tea toner, ACV + water toner, young living’s toner, etc. my skin likes the switch up ☺️
today’s concoction is a combination of micellar water + young living’s ART toner & it’s glorious! this pretty bottle is from Kuishi Home—i absolutely love the shape of it! & it works so so well.

〰 8 oz of Dr. Bronners castile soap (if you haven't used castile before, it's a really natural, concentrated soap! you really can't go wrong with any scent but i particularly love eucalyptus & lavender!)
〰 8 oz of distilled water
〰 1 tablespoon of sweet almond oil
〰 10 drops lavender
〰 10 drops lemon
〰 add all ingredients to foaming soap dispenser & use morning + night!

making my own beauty + household products has been one of the most empowering experiences. if you have been intimidated to make your own products, this is an excellent recipe to start with! it's so easy & you will love it so much 🙌🏼 pro tip: you can use it as your hand soap too!

DIY non-toxic dry shampoo

what do you do when you run out of dry shampoo & showering just isn't in the cards? 🙃 make your own! it's v cheap, v easy, & v effective. ⠀

1. fill spice jar halfway with arrowroot powder (buy from amazon or almost any grocery store: $4 for 16 oz)

2. add 2 drops spearmint EO + 2 drops lavender EO.

3. shake, shake, shake! fill to the top with more powder. if you have darker hair, add some cocoa powder to create your color of choice!

4. shake onto your neglected roots & rub in with your hands or a makeup brush!⠀
store-bought dry shampoo is filled with weirddddd stuff. seriously google it, or scan yours on the Think Dirty app! the store bought stuff is designed to draw moisture away from the scalp so excessive use will typically leave you with a dry and flaky scalp. arrowroot powder is just a ground up tropical plant so it doesn't have these bad side effects. 💥⠀
